 Never used Affinity Designer before? You’re in the right place.

You’ll get an entire module called Intro to Affinity Designer that walks you through the basics you need to create the projects inside this course.

You don’t need to be a graphic designer. You don’t need to know how to use Affinity Designer already. I’ll walk you through it step-by-step so you can create your own designs from scratch.

By the time you start the holiday projects, you’ll have the foundation you need to jump right in!

Student Work: From Design to Foiled Money Wallets

From original designs to the finished foiled money wallets, these are the skills one student learned and put into practice!

 

Project 1: Intro to Affinity + Foiled Money Wallets

Get started with Affinity Designer while creating four completely different money wallet designs from scratch! What are money wallets? The cutest way to gift cash!

You’ll learn multiple design approaches throughout the project. Some wallets will be created entirely from scratch, while others will show you how to take individual elements and combine, arrange, modify, and customize them into an original composition.

Along the way, you’ll learn how to prepare your designs for toner foiling and apply foil for that gorgeous shine!

You’ll learn:

  • The basics of Affinity Designer
  • How to create and customize designs from scratch
  • How to combine existing design elements into original compositions
  • How to prepare your files for foiling
  • How to foil your finished designs

Project 2: Holiday Cards

Learn how to turn inspiration into your own holiday card designs while creating two completely different cards, one geared towards beginners and one that takes your design skills a step further.

You’ll start with a simple text-based design, learning how to create a beautiful holiday card using typography. Then, you’ll take on a more intermediate design approach and learn how to create a custom decorative scroll using the Pencil Tool to build a more detailed, original composition.

You’ll also learn how to foil on dark colored cardstock and how to set up your files when working with more than one foil color.

You’ll learn:

  • How to find inspiration and turn it into your own design ideas
  • How to create a beginner-friendly text-based holiday card
  • How to create al elegant scroll using the Pencil Tool and inspiration from a popular holiday book
  • How to foil on dark cardstock
  • How to set up files for multiple foil colors

Project 3: Foiled Stickers + Gift Tags

Learn how to create shiny foiled stickers and gift tags while building on the design skills you’ve already learned. You’ll set up a sticker template and learn the process for getting your designs to properly align for consistent results.

You’ll also learn how to foil on red versus white sticker sheets. Then, you’ll take designs you’ve already created and learn how to repurpose them in a new way, so you aren't constantly reinventing the wheel.

Finally, you’ll learn how to make text loop, curve, and flow in any direction you want, and use that skill to create simple, elegant monogrammed gift tags.

You’ll learn:

  • How to set up a sticker template for foiling
  • How to properly align your designs for sticker sheets
  • How to foil on red vs. white sticker paper
  • How to repurpose designs you’ve already created
  • How to make text loop and curve in any direction
  • How to create simple, monogrammed gift tags

Project 4: Foiled Gift Tickets + Scratch-Offs

Create a fun and unexpected way to gift something that can’t be wrapped! In this project, you’ll design two different holiday gift tickets that can be used to reveal a special gift, experience, or surprise.

You’ll create the tickets in two different orientations, giving you the opportunity to explore different layouts and design approaches. We’ll also experiment with matte and shiny foil and talk about how the finish of your foil can change the overall look of your design.

To make the tickets even more fun, you’ll add a scratch-off element that lets the recipient reveal their surprise!

You’ll learn:

  • How to design two unique ticket layouts
  • How to incorporate a scratch off element into your design
  • How to choose between matte and shiny foil
  • How to create a fun, giftable piece for experiences and gifts that can’t be wrapped

BONUS PROJECT: A Surprise Holiday Project

There’s one more holiday project coming your way! I’m keeping this one a surprise for now, but you’ll get an additional project tutorial to help you keep practicing your design and foiling skills.
